Suzanne Payne
Greetings and thanks for saying "Hi." I'm just learning how to make this
page happen (thanks of course to Rob) so it will grow slowly. Who would
have thought I could program this to happen?!
Here are a few things I am interested in:
Running
Well, I enjoyed running the Twin Cities Marathon, but WOW is 26.2 miles
a long way to go! It was the hottest Twin Cities Marathon on record, but
actually a beautiful day. The first 18 miles were great, and then my feet
decided they were done. All in all - I'm very happy with my run and my
time of 4:45:29. However, once was enough. Check out my time in the Star
Tribune. Twin
Cities Marathon
Since the marathon, running has been easy. Going out for 5-6 is like
nothing. I'm glad my teammates and I still get together for some good miles.
This winter in MN isn't very inviting for outdoor activity so having friends
along is always nice.
Quilting
No, I'm still not finished with our wedding quilt. King size quilts take
a long time. The pattern is the double Irish chain in blues and creams.
Imagine me doing something in blue. The top and bottom are all assembled.
Once I get the fleece put together, I'll be ready to tackle some hand quilting
which will be a new task for me. I am looking forward to it though. MN
winter is upon us now - so I have to get moving here.
Young Life
I could go on forever about Young Life. Young Life is a non-denominational,
Christian youth group for high school kids. I was a Young Life kid in high
school and then when I went to college, I became a Young Life leader in
Syracuse, NY. My years with YL have been some of the best times of my life
so far. It was an incredibly rewarding, challenging and fun experience.
Working with kids is a priceless opportunity that always leaves and impression
on your life - and in my opinion, always for the better. I made come of
my closest friend through this group and also was able to learn a lot about
myself and how I want to live my life. A favorite quote of mine is, "We
make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give." I certainly
got back 10 fold anything I ever gave in working with YL. After we moved
to MN, I got out of YL to spend time with my new husband, but I will return
to YL someday - maybe as an adult committee member or maybe as a leader
again. Check out YL's home page at Young
Life
Cats
OK, this was Rob's idea. I am NOT a cat lover and try to avoid being around
them as much as possible. I just don't like them - our personalities clash.
Playing Music
Basically I have too many hobbies! I have played the piano since I was
in second grade and took up the guitar when I was a Young Life leader in
college. I took piano lessons for 10 years and thoroughly enjoy playing.
I would like to play more than I do - it is very relaxing for me, but unfortunately
time just flies. I never took lessons on the guitar and therefore have
a very limited playing field. I do however, still enjoy playing simple
songs which was all I ever needed for YL purposes.
Cooking
How could I leave out my passion - FOOD. As much as I love to eat, I love
to cook. (Rob is very happy about that.) My mother and grandmother are
both very good cooks - so I had great examples growing up. I am not very
good at following recipes - I'm more the creative cooker and add and subtract
the things I like or don't like. I like to try new things and have fun
in the kitchen. Unfortunately I always make a huge mess.
